The University of Food Technology - Plovdiv was established as the Higher Institute of Food Industry (VIHVP) by Decree No. 230 of the Presidium of the National Assembly of Bulgaria on 10 July 1953.
This academic centre for food science and technology education and research is the only one of its kind in the Balkans. Following its successful accreditation in January 2003, the VIHV was transformed into a university in accordance with the Decision of the National Assembly of the Republic of Bulgaria. On 23.01.2003, by the decision of the 39th Parliament of the Republic of Bulgaria, VihvP was transformed into the University of Food Technologies - Plovdiv (UXT).
The mission and goals of the UFT always offer solutions to national problems related to the development of the food industry, biotechnology, catering and tourism, as well as industrial management, food industry economics, thermal engineering, computer systems and technology, mechanical engineering and production automation. In its activities, UHT is guided by experience gained over more than 60 years, together with constant cooperation with other higher education institutions at home and abroad specializing in the same professional fields. Quality and European integration are priorities in the activities of the academic community of UXT.
UXT offers bachelor's, master's and doctoral programs in technology, engineering and economics of food industry and biotechnology. It employs highly qualified teaching and research academic staff and provides training in up-to-date programmes. We firmly believe that achieving quality of life through safe and healthy food can be guaranteed by the young professionals who receive excellent training at UHT. Many of our graduates have built careers as managers of public or private companies, have become distinguished scientists or prominent public figures.
